Julie Hess (she/her), Director of Clinical Support, LCSW, received her Bachelor’s Degree in Africana Studies from Vassar College and her Master of Social Work from New York University. Julie joined UnCommon Law in 2016 as a volunteer social worker, and served as UnCommon Law’s Deputy Director from 2018 to 2020 before transitioning into her current role as Director of Clinical Support. Prior to working with UCL, Julie spent over a decade advocating for children and families in the foster care, juvenile probation, and mental health systems. In addition to providing counseling and intensive case management, she developed programs geared toward ensuring that children could grow up in family members’ homes rather than in institutionalized settings, or group homes. Collectively known as therapeutic wraparound services, this way of managing the care of children entangled in these systems is now the standard of care in several California counties.
